In other words, I’m working on a second Flash game, and here’s a screenshot of the progress so far:
As you can see, it’s a top-down scrolling shooter. The above is still rough, visually, but that’s why it’s an alpha version. Your fighter will have several weapon slots, so you can use various weapon combinations. Later on in the game, you’ll be able to fit more specialized weapons on your ship, after a bit of costly re-engineering. Heavier weapons drain energy faster however, so your shields won’t recharge as fast when you’re equipped with 4 white star cannons, if at all. I’m still thinking out the exact dynamics for this however, so we’ll see. More news coming up soon, I hope. If my last school year isn’t too demanding, of course.
PS: If you’re interested in playtesting this game once it’s in a more playable state, don’t hesitate and leave a comment here with some contact information, or, if you prefer that, you can e-mail me through my portfolio’s contact page. If you’ve got some idea’s or suggestions, you’re welcome too. Thanks! :)
I’ve briefly tried Flash a long time ago, and didn’t like it. A week or two ago I decided to give Flash another try, and lo and behold – I’ve actually started to like it. Granted, it’s a little different from what I’ve used so far, but it didn’t take too long to get used to.
After downloading the Flash CS3 trial and following some tutorials, I decided to get my feet wet and just start building a game – and finishing it! I took the basic idea of Snake and added a few features to it: moving obstacles and speed tiles. Clicking on the following image will take you to it’s page on Kongregate, where you can play it:
After checking some stats, it turned out that the first few levels were too boring. I was afraid of making them too difficult, so I kept moving obstacles out of them, but that one backfired. Still, it’s actually a decent game, and I’m quite happy with how fast Flash games can be developed.
So, time for another Flash game. And this time, a game with more action and interesting things going on, instead of a training project. Stay tuned. :)
